Lithuanian University of Health Sciences

The Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LUHS) is the largest university in Lithuania, preparing health specialists. It unites the Veterinary Academy and the Medical Academy. LUHS traditions of studies and scientific work go back to the times of the Faculty of Medicine at Vytautas Magnus University, which was later turned into Kaunas Institute of Medicine. On June 30, 2010, the Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania passed a resolution to merge Kaunas University of Medicine (KMU) and the Lithuanian Veterinary Academy (LVA). Now the University is the biggest institution of higher education for biomedical sciences in Lithuania integrating studies, research and clinical practice. In 2014, 7990 students, among them 654 foreign and 260 PhD students, are taking part in 111 study programmes.

Vilnius University

Vilnius University (VU) was founded in 1579 and is the oldest and largest university in the Baltic States. VU has 12 faculties, 7 research institutes, 4 study and research centres, the oldest Library in Lithuania, 2 university hospitals, an Astronomical Observatory, a Botanical Garden, a Centre of Information Technology Development, and St. John's Church. Over 1500 doctor (including habilitated doctors) degree scientists are involved in research and studies. In 2013, VU had over 20,831 students, including 14754 bachelor and professional degree students, as well as 3423 master and 779 doctoral degree students. VU has longstanding traditions of international science and cooperation involving Lithuanian scientists, master and doctoral students and foreign visitors.

Lund University

Lund University (LUND) is Sweden's strongest comprehensive research university, which is ranked as one of the top 100 in the world. In recent years, the university has been awarded more research funding than any other Swedish full-scale university. In 2009 Lund University received strategic research funding of SEK 715 million from the Swedish Government in order to lead and develop world-leading research in nine different areas over a period of five years. It includes the development of the “Medicon village”, which integrates on a unique place research, innovation and enterprises to cover the entire value chain in people’s health and wellbeing research and innovation.
