VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland
VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland is a non-profit government organisation established by law and operating under the auspices of the Finnish Ministry of Employment and the Economy. VTT is a multi-technological research organisation providing high-end technology solutions and innovation services. From its wide knowledge base, VTT can combine different technologies, create new innovations and a wide range of world-class technologies and applied research services, thus improving its clients’ competitiveness and competence. Through its international scientific and technology networks, VTT can produce information, upgrade technology knowledge, and create business intelligence and value added for its stakeholders. VTT’s activities are focused on three areas: Knowledge intensive products and services, Smart industry and energy systems, and Solutions for natural resources and environment.
VTT Group is the largest public applied research activity in Northern Europe with a staff of 2600 and turnover 279 M€. VTT has 70 years of experience in addressing the needs of industry and the knowledge-based society. Over the years, VTT has participated in more than 1000 European R&D Framework Programme projects, within various thematic programmes. In 2013 alone, VTT was involved in 471 EU-funded research projects from which it coordinated c. 40 FP7 projects.
Within the business area of “knowledge intensive products and services” a research area of 100 research scientists focuses on research activities for developing technologies to improve health and wellbeing. The area has a strong tradition in research on ICT for wellness and healthcare. Its core competences include: biosignal and image analysis, clinical decision support systems, personal health systems, behaviour change support, eHealth and mHealth technologies, and bioinformatics.
